Turning Ideas Into Real Products: Highlights from The Hatchere Innovation Showcase 2026

2026 / 06 / 27 丨 # Events

Penang, Malaysia -- 26 June 2026

As industries around the world increasingly seek partners that offer more than manufacturing capability, The Hatchere is helping position Penang as a destination where global opportunities can be transformed into commercially viable products through engineering capability, product incubation and commercialization.

This vision was showcased today at The Hatchere Innovation Showcase 2026, where representatives from the Ministry of Digital, the Penang State Government, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), together with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, engineers, manufacturers and ecosystem partners gathered to explore how international collaboration, engineering excellence and product incubation are creating new opportunities for higher-value economic growth in Malaysia.

Held under the theme "Turning Ideas Into Real Products", the showcase celebrated The Hatchere's first anniversary while highlighting a growing shift in Penang's role – from a globally recognised manufacturing hub to an ecosystem that increasingly supports product incubation, engineering development and commercialization.

The event also followed The Hatchere's recent recognition as Penang's first newly approved Malaysia Digital (MD) Hub focused on Product Innovation & Commercialisation, reinforcing its role in connecting international opportunities with Malaysia's engineering expertise and manufacturing ecosystem.

Opening Remarks were delivered by YBrs. Tuan Shakib Ahmad Shakir Bin Jamaluddin, Deputy Secretary General (Strategy & Management) , Ministry of Digital.

Special Remarks were delivered by YB Zairil Khir Johari, Penang State EXCO for Infrastructure, Transport and Digital.

Throughout the event, one message remained central:

Manufacturing excellence alone is no longer enough.

Today's global innovators are looking for partners who can help transform opportunities into commercially successful products by combining engineering capability, product development expertise, manufacturing readiness and commercialization support.

Rather than focusing solely on technology, the showcase illustrated a complete product incubation journey – from understanding user needs and identifying market opportunities, through engineering development and prototyping, to commercialization and manufacturing.

This approach reflects The Hatchere's belief that successful products begin not with technology alone, but with understanding real-world problems and building the right ecosystem to solve them.

The showcase featured three product incubation projects that demonstrate this philosophy through international collaboration and local engineering capability.

FEATURED PROJECTS

Nemobee

Singapore Collaboration • Patent Pending

Developed through a collaboration between Singaporean and Malaysian companies, Nemobee began with a simple observation – modern parenting has changed, but infant feeding has remained largely unchanged.

By combining user-centred design, engineering and smart technology, the project has evolved into a patent-pending feeding solution and is progressing towards an AI-enabled platform designed to help parents better understand feeding patterns, routines and infant care needs.

Diver tracker

United States Collaboration • Patent Pending

Developed through collaboration between a U.S. company and The Hatchere, Open Sea Tracker is a maritime safety and tracking solution designed for demanding offshore environments.

The project demonstrates how international opportunities can be translated into manufacturable products through engineering development, prototyping, manufacturing and testing.

QlinHelmet Sanitiser

Developed in Penang • Patented

Designed and developed in Penang, QlinHelmet Sanitiser demonstrates the capability of local innovators to transform an everyday user problem into an original patented product through engineering, product development and commercialization.

Speaking at the event, Stanley Lee, CEO of The Hatchere, said:

"Opportunities are everywhere. The challenge is turning them into something real. That's where engineering, collaboration and the right partners matter."

He said The Hatchere operates on a simple belief – that successful products begin by understanding real-world problems rather than starting with technology.

"Great ideas alone are not enough," he said. "Turning opportunities into successful products requires engineering capability, product development expertise, manufacturing partnerships and the right ecosystem working together."

This belief defines The Hatchere's incubation model – which is built around engineering capability, helping innovators transform concepts into manufacturable, commercially viable products through collaboration with the right ecosystem partners.

This philosophy has enabled The Hatchere to establish collaborations with partners from the United States, France, Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

Rather than simply attracting projects into Malaysia, these collaborations create opportunities for Malaysian engineers, manufacturers and technology companies to participate in global product development activities, strengthen technical capabilities and gain international market exposure.

Looking ahead, The Hatchere believes Penang's next phase of growth will depend not only on manufacturing excellence, but also on its ability to help companies identify opportunities, incubate products, accelerate engineering development and bring new products successfully to market.

By combining international opportunities with local engineering talent and manufacturing capability, Penang is well positioned to become an increasingly important destination for global product development.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Datuk Ts. Fadzli Abdul Wahit, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

The showcase concluded with a shared vision that stronger collaboration between government, industry, universities and technology partners will continue creating higher-value opportunities for Malaysian companies and future generations of engineers.
